Overview

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is seeking an experienced Budget Analyst for its Business Operations Department. Reporting to the Assistant Budget Director, the Budget Analyst will support the Laboratory's budget formulation/execution activities and provide analytical/financial support to the Assistant Budget Director, Budget Director and Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

Core Duties: 

 

Financial Analysis/Budget Formulation & Execution (55%)

  • Prepare various financial schedules to support the Laboratory's budget formulation and execution processes, outyear planning, provisional and actual indirect rate calculations.
  • Perform monthly analysis of indirect cost recovery at provisional rates; provide explanation of variances.
  • Prepare various reports for submission to DOE including supporting the Assistant Budget Director with the preparation of the annual Incurred Cost Submission.
  • Provide analytical and financial analysis support to the Assistant Budget Director, Budget Director and Chief Financial Officer, including responding to ad hoc data calls from DOE.

Oracle ERP System (30%) – Funding Updates, Data & Report Validation, Project/Award Setup, Other functions under the responsibility of the Budget Office

  • Set up of new projects and awards, updates to cost allocation tables, etc.
  • Update project funding in the system monthly as funding is received and validate funding against DOE reports.
  • Validate indirect costs and allocated cost calculations are accurate; investigate discrepancies.
  • Perform month/year end closing processes assigned to the Budget Office.
  • Perform testing of system changes as needed.

Other Tasks (15%)

  • Support Principal Investigators in the preparation and submission of proposals to DOE or other sponsors.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents in response to requests from auditors.
  • Assist in developing/updating Budget Office desktop procedures and other documents.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Mathematics or similar field; MBA degree a plus.
  • 5-8 years’ experience working in a budgeting/accounting environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Experience with Oracle financials PPM and EPM cloud a plus.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of complex financial spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; ability to explain and quantify the impact of alternative decisions/scenarios to address business issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, both internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Ability to independently research, interpret, analyze, and compile data, and present results.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and successfully meet deadlines/deliverables working outside normal hours as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and Google applications.
