This position supports numerous activities for the implementation of the Accelerator Safety Order for the National Spherical Torus Experiment-Upgrade (NSTX-U) project at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.
The individual will assist with the development of key project analysis and documentation, most prominently the NSTX-U Safety Assessment Document, and associated hazard reports. This includes completion and documentation of hazard analysis. Additional documentation task include the development of various project plans, the failure modes and effects analysis and safety management programs for key safety systems. The individual will also assist with the development of key project and laboratory procedures.
The individual will also assist in the preparation for, execution of, and follow-up of key project reviews. These include Laboratory "red team" reviews and critical Accelerator Readiness Reviews (ARRs). They will also assist with tracking and closing out action items from reviews, and status the ASO development process for cost and schedule considerations, participate in the tracking and resolution of un-reviewed safety items.
The ideal individual will have experience with safety analysis, from both a radiological and industrial hazards perspective, as well as radiation protection programs. They will be able to work with individuals from different technical disciplines in order to complete safety analysis for the facility. Also, we able to work both independently in a self-directed manner, and as a part of a larger team, and have technical writing skills.
A bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, with at least 5 years' experience in safety analysis, quality assurance, radiological protection, industrial hygiene, or related fields. Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet applications is required.
A master's degree and additional experience desired.
