  • Overview

    Under general supervision of the Head of Environmental Services, this position provides environmental compliance services to the Laboratory and DOE customers through the  Environmental Services Division (ESD). The position focuses on the Lab's Environmental Management System (EMS) and environmental compliance activities for regulatory requirements pursuant to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) permits and laboratory certifications. Develops and maintains policies, plans and procedures for environmental compliance program. This position also provides leadership to PPPL's environmental stewardship and employee outreach programs and to voluntary environmental stewardship programs and subject matter expertise and support in environmental remediation monitoring, reporting and remedial action permitting.

    Responsibilities

    Manage programs and activities applicable to meeting USEPA, NJDEP, Federal environmental regulations, Executive Orders, DOE goals, and PPPL annual performance metrics related to environmental compliance.

     

    Utilize strong writing and oral communication skills, environmental data management and analysis, and compliance calculations for permitting and related environmental compliance activities.  Work with responsible PPPL managers to assure compliance across all management levels and departments to ensure compliance with regulatory and other requirements.

     

    Provide specialized assessments and technical guidance.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree required. Master's Degree preferred in environmental science, physical/earth sciences, engineering, or related technical subject.

     

    A minimum of ten years of progressive technical experience in environmental compliance, remediation, permitting or management. Demonstrated experience in interpreting environmental regulations and developing suitable compliance practices.  Both Federal and New jersey experience preferred.

     

    Scientific, engineering and practical knowledge of techniques and procedures applied to environmental compliance and management to review, evaluate and advise on a wide range of activities.  The work typically involves activity based on new legislation, regulations, executive order or new national or international standards.

     

    Ability to manage complete, accurate and auditable compliance records for regulated operations and activities.

     

    Ability to communicate with all levels of employees in both formal and informal settings across all levels of management and departments.
