  • Overview

    Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory has an opening within its Information Technology Department for a Database Administrator.  This person will be a core component of the Application Development team, holding a key role in the design, implementation and maintenance of essential database systems.  Responsibilities will include database maintenance on a variety of platforms, including MSSQL, MySQL and more, aiding the laboratory’s mission by providing a stable and efficient platform to conduct business.

    Responsibilities

    • Develops and maintains applications and databases by evaluating client needs and analyzing requirements
    • Prepare documentation and reports on maintenance of applications and databases
    • Formulate disaster recovery plans and execute testing on a regular basis
    • Support business operations users, the organization’s business system, and other crucial applications
    • Participate in peer reviews of solution designs
    • Analyze and resolve technical issues with applications
    • Aid in consolidation efforts of organization database systems and applications to ensure maximum efficiency and cost savings

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong multitasking skills
    • 3-5+ years working experience developing and maintaining databases in Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access, MySQL and related platforms
    • Must be able to work independently
    • Familiar with enterprise business systems, such as Great Plains or PeopleSoft
    • General knowledge of ITIL service strategies and CRMs
    • Advanced problem solving and attention to detail
    • Experience writing Crystal Reports against MSSQL databases using SQL Stored Procedures
    • Experience with business analytics tools, such as Microsoft’s PowerBI
    • Experience in popular coding languages, such as ASP.net, C#, PHP, HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and more
    • Familiar with Accounting, Budget and Procurement business practices
