Provides support to the Associate Director of Academic Affairs and manages administrative services in support of the Graduate Program in Plasma Physics.
The Graduate Administrator is responsible for day–to-day operations and is the lead person providing support for teaching, research and student interactions. Provides first-line support and oversight on budgets up to three (3) million dollars, coordinates the program that supports 40 graduate students, 17 faculty, plus thesis and project supervisors, and handles all departmental tasks for the Program. Functions as the liaison between PPPL and the Graduate School Deans as well as other University administrative offices, such as the Dean of the Faculty, Office of the Registrar, and the Department of Astrophysical Sciences. The Graduate Administrator also functions as the assistant to the Associate Director for Academic Affairs at PPPL.
This position requires a Bachelors’ degree or equivalent experience, a minimum of
5 years of work experience, preferably in an academic setting with experience in student affairs and budgets/financial management systems. In addition, the following essential qualifications are required for the Graduate Administrator position - accuracy, close attention to detail, discretion in dealing with highly confidential material, excellent interpersonal skills, a high degree of professionalism and initiative, a high level of proficiency with computers, data management, and the Microsoft Office suite of applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, ability to manage a heavy workload and to prioritize projects as needed, and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures in supervisor’s absence, ability to problem solve and offer creative solutions.
