The Theory Department at Princeton University's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory seeks a full time Computational Physicist/Scientist to participate in the US national Exascale Computing Project "Co­ design Center for Particle Applications (CoPA)," sponsored by Department of Energy. The research effort aims at improving all aspects of particle simulations as the computing platforms advance beyond the 10 to 100 PF level and towards exascale. The main code to improve at PPPL is the XGC gyrokinetic edge particle-in-cell code, and to apply it for scientific discovery on worlds large computers that has not been possible before.

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with organizational strategy, commitments, and goals. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party resources in order to deliver projects according to plan. The SPM is also responsible for defining the project objectives and overseeing quality control throughout the project life cycle. The SPM is expected to frequently engage with end user(s), PPPL, and DOE stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate awareness of project status and performance. Key project attributes leading to possible career progression for the SPM include: project complexity, risk, team size, business volume, contract type, and political/client/business sensitivities.  The SPM manages the full life cycle of assigned projects and assures that these projects are completed in accordance with PPPL and DOE policies, programs and procedures.

This position will support the PPPL Engineering Collaboration Head in support of the PPPL contributions to the DIII-D National Fusion Facility in San Diego, CA.  Responsibilities include the design and installation of mechanical devices that inject powders and granules to the DIII-D Tokamak, develop upgrades for high energy neutral beams, perform RF system upgrades, support the operation on the DIII-D facility and maintain an inventory of PPPL property located at DIII-D in San Diego, CA. The Electro-Mechanical Engineer is a hands-on applied engineering role which involves both creative design, light fabrication of parts and assemblies, testing, and experimental operation on DIII-D and potentially other fusion reactors worldwide. The successful candidate will be based in San Diego, CA.

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) of Princeton University invites applications for a post-doctoral research position that will support the ongoing collaboration between PPPL and the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator located in Greifswald, Germany.  PPPL is the lead US institution in a larger US W7-X collaboration that includes partners from ORNL, LANL, University of Wisconsin, Auburn University and MIT as well as private industry participation from Xantho Technologies.  The applicant will be expected to spend extended periods onsite in Greifswald in support of experimental activities. W7-X is a state-of-the-art superconducting fusion confinement device intended to operate under near steady-state condition with pulse lengths up to 30 minutes in fusion relevant conditions-multi-kilovolt temperatures with plasma densities in the range of several times 1020m-3 .
